Work tracking
A board for visualising and pulling work through the firm — missions on the left, plans in the middle, shipped increments on the right — with explicit WIP limits on every column.
Work tracking is the pane where the firm makes its load visible. Every Strategic Intent, every Delivery Plan, every shipped increment shows up as a card on a Kanban board. Humans see what is in flight at every flight level.
The pane will be an off-the-shelf Kanban tool (Vikunja or
JIRA or anything like that, still planned). The choice of
an existing board software over a custom UI is deliberate:
humans already know how to read a Kanban board. (note: the
current board is a vibe-coded solution because open source
candidates where not fit for purpose to heavy lifting for
k3d pods)
Agentic firms tempt their operators into featureitis: ship more, faster, see what sticks. A board with no WIP limits enables that pathology. firmd's board enforces the opposite: work moves by pull, not push, and each flight level has a finite capacity.
Without a tracked board, the firm cannot answer the question "what is firmd actually doing right now?" without scanning chat transcripts. With it, the answer is the columns.
Strategy, Tactics each have their own swimlane (Planned: Delivery). Strategy does not flood Tactics; Tactics does not flood Delivery. Cards move down only when the next level has pulled them.
The Tactics column carries a configurable cap. When the cap is reached, no new tactics mission starts until one leaves. The constraint is what makes capacity a first-class budget for the firm's mid-cycle work, rather than a vague aspiration about not over-committing.
Every card carries a link to its mission transcript, its content sources, and — when shipped — its telemetry. Closing a card means producing evidence, not declaring victory.
